Melaleuca Distributors Aren't All Created Equal

by Diane Voisley

One of the most common myths spreading like wild fire throughout network marketing companies like Melaleuca is that "Anyone can do this business!" Other statements made by MLM companies promise a huge return in a relatively short time frame and this promotes the same thought, but it's all a sham! The belief that anyone can achieve great success without any type of experience or skills is sadly mistaken and worse yet it's the distributors that pay the price for this huge mistake!

The simple fact of the matter is this, not all network marketers are created equal. All Melaleuca, Inc. distributors enter the race at different starting points, and some are definitely closer to the finish line than others. Some people have enormous head starts on others in terms of experience, skills, time, and money, and just because some people were able to successfully hit $20,000 a month in just two years doesn't mean that everyone will accomplish this.

Has the Melaleuca Company led you to believe that anyone can get into this business and obtain the same results as the big MLM players? Here's a little secret that Melaleuca business owners won't hear from their upline, sponsors or even the company. Often, the big MLM players move from company to company. As a result, when these players make the move, their experience and their marketing skills and most importantly, a huge chunk of their downline goes with them. When they plant themselves in a new company, it's very easy for them to earn commissions checks that most people only dream of.

And all the poor Melaleuca home based business beginners hear about is how this brand new, wet behind the ears, distributor has soared from making nothing to $30,000 a month in less than six months time, and how they can do it too! They fail to realize that behind this person's rapid rise to mlm stardom is years of experience, thousands of dollars in expenses, countless hours of hard work, and often times extensive backgrounds in sales and marketing.

Let's really take a look at this. Does a stay-at-home mom have the same skills that a fireman or a car mechanic has? The answer is an obvious "no". So how then, can we really believe that we or the stay-at-home mom or the fireman or the mechanic can compete against the MLM Melaleuca professional? It's ridiculous to lump everyone into one category and think that anyone in the Wellness Company can do this business!

So let's get to the "nitty gritty" of it all. If you're serious about building your Melaleuca wellness business and you're ready to start making the big bucks, then you've got to develop certain skills. One of the most important skills you should work on is improving your sales skills. If that freaks you out, know this. If you're involved with Melaleuca the Wellness Company, then you're involved in marketing and sales! No sales equals no profits and that means no success! And don't worry, you can develop the skills you need as long as you want to bad enough.

The next key to having a successful business is to dedicate time to it. Distributors should bank on spending at least 8 - 10 hours minimum per week and if they can do a little more like 12 - 15 hours that would be even better. Some Melaleuca product distributors don't believe that they have the time because they have to go to work everyday, but basically, it all boils down to learning how to manage their time.

"It takes money to make money!" Distributors have to set aside some funds dedicated to building their business in an ongoing fashion. Another big myth being told to new reps is that their only expenses are the start-up fees and their mandatory product orders. Can you imagine a Fortune 500 company operating like that? Distributors need to learn how to work off a budget and direct funds toward marketing their business in order to be successful.

Your marketing budget will be used to bring in qualified MLM leads for your business! In reality, there are two main ways to obtain Melaleuca.com leads - your own advertising and purchasing leads. A distributor's main focus should be generating leads from advertising, but if they want to jump start their business, paying someone for leads is another good option. Keep in mind that the key to your Melaleuca business success is a constant supply of quality leads - people that are looking for you and want to participate in your business. Without these kinds of leads, a Melaleuca distributor will fail.
