Amy Winehouse Facts - Things You May Not Know
Amy Winehouse, born September 14th 1983, is an incredibly exciting vocalist, with talent to see her grow old doing the thing she loves the most. Despite her rollercoaster career, here are some facts you might want to know.
She was born into a Jewish family(in Southgate, London), who ironically were all Jazz musicians, and this became her inspiration. At the age of just Ten she formed a rap band called Sweet n Sour with one of her best friends. Later on she went to a theatre school but somehow became involved in trouble, even piercing her nose! Then later on in 1997 she and her fellow students apeared on an episode of The Fast Show.
At Thirteen years of age she got her first guitar, got absorbed by it and dropped out of school a year later while writing music, and trying some drugs. She wrote her debut Album called "Frank" in October 2003 which received many positive reviews. During 2004 she won the Ivor Novello award for best contemporary song, as credit to her song entitled "stronger than me".
Unfortunately Amy grew tired of the album after the record producers included some songs she disliked.
In a shock twist to her Jazz influenced work, Amy added focus to her work based on the girls and women of the 1950's and 1960's.
Much later, Amy met Mark Ronson, who became a huge influence and inspiration in her life that, after 18 months of doing very little she turned things around and wrote her second album within 6 months.
Since then Amy has gone from strength to strength, but has gained an unwanted reputation for her recent drug problems in 2007/2008.
So while her musical career has soared, hitting 5x Platinum in the uk, her other side of life took over and videos of her taking cocaine surfaced and were released online.
Amy's career is likely to span another 10 to 20 years but only if she can control her drug issues.
