Medical Insurance for Diabetics

by Ray Lam

Medical insurance for a diabetic is health care coverage for people with type one, type two, or gestational diabetes. If a person recently learned that he has one of these types and does not have good health insurance, he will need medical coverage that will cover the everyday administration of drugs and other medical equipment.

The potential costs incurred by a diabetic are enormous. They include the cost of actual diabetes control such as insulin, test kits and injection kits, treatment of diabetes related complications such as neuropath, equipment for diabetics such as special diabetic shoes and socks, and personal care items such as specialized skin lotions.

Getting a life insurance policy can seem impossible and unaffordable once you are diagnosed with diabetes. This is because the rate you pay will be affected by your health status, and a condition like diabetes will push this through the roof. Many insurance companies will actually refuse to insure a diabetic. As with travel and medical insurance, however, there are companies that provide specific life insurance for diabetics, so you should not be put off searching for a life insurance policy. The following tips will help you to search for the best policy for your condition.

You can use the internet to find a wide range of insurance companies, but be aware that you will not always get the best quote for your specific condition online. You will get a more accurate quote if you contact the company in person. If you know other diabetics ask them to recommend companies that offer insurance for diabetics.

If you find after an extensive search that you cannot find any medical insurance for diabetics, contact your congressman. They may be able to help by pulling a few strings or making the issue an embarrassment to the insurance companies, in which case, it could benefit many diabetics besides you.
